The girls recorded their first league victory of the season against Poppleton Tigers winning emphatically 6-2. Not only did we score through Ella who got 4 and vicky who grabbed 2, but we played some really good football and kept Poppleton on the back foot for much of the game. Lizzie produced a crucial save at 0-0 and we grew in confidence as Ella recorded a first half Hat trick. The going was tougher in the second half playing up the hill and Olivia and Charlotte had to defend which they did in their usual calm and authoritative manner. Saffy and Jess and Sophie broke up Poppleton attacks and launched wave after wave of attacks which Ella and Vicky successfully converted. Poppleton never gave up and were rewarded with 2 goals in return but the girls celebrated at the final whistle as we gained that long awaited victory.
In the second match the girls were up against the same Poppleton team but set about their task with huge enthusism. Lizzie switched to defence and made some great long clearences working alongside Charlotte who broke up Poppleton attacks. Holly and Emily worked hard in midfieldas did Sophie and Molly. We turned round at half time 1-0 down but found it hard going in the second half despite some good attacking from Rose, Elizabeth and Amelia. The eventual score was 5-0 but well done girls on some excellent footballl, its coming together nicely! Many thanks to Georgie for raising herslelf from her death bed to return Scott who was unsurprisingly awarded to Ella as player of the day.
Next week we are away at Poppleton so more of the same would be nice. We will meet at 9.30 at the Village hall, can you let Eddie know if you're making your own way there.
Don't forget bag packing at Asda 4.00 till 5.30 as well next Saturday.
Many thanks to Ian, Dave and Jonny for their help this week.
Well done girls you're brilliant!
