With the girls back on their favoured home pitch it certainly showed why they like it so much. Their passing and movement was as good as i've seen it,the flat surface helping this.
Again lets mention our opposition Ripon who are a very good team and went toe to toe with our girls.Ripon certainly played their part in this game and always put up a good game and showed why i believe this was only their second defeat this season.
Ripon played well but watch out everybody this Scotton side are starting to purr, just like manchester utd they seem to be able turn on the style when required.Lets hope they keep up this momentum and keep playing the great standard of football they keep producing now week in week out.
Onto the match action itself then: Captain fantastic Georgia T opened the scoring, showing us why she is still one of the leading strikers in the league.Georgia has had to put up with extra marking this season as teams single her out as a major danger to them,but credit to her she has battled through and still finds the back of the net on regular occasion.Well done Georgia.So 1-0 up and the game was still very tight but thanks to Molly W who gave the the team a 2-0 cushion and gave us much needed breathing space. This only seemed to up the tempo though as ripon pushed forward and a long range effort was smothered by Rebecca C in goal only for the ball to cruelly wriggle through and over the line somehow.Shortly after this led to the most exciting passage of the game when firstly ripon unleashed a rocket of a shot which was heading for the top corner until Rebecca 'The Cat' C dived full length (Gordon Banks-esque for you older readers Leanne Hall-esque for the more youthful ones)and saved one handed to leave everybody open mouthed to how she had kept the ball out and more importantly her team in the lead.From the resulting corner Scotton stole the ball and went straight up the other end finishing with a pile driver of a shot from Georgia T which went just over the bar. I'm not sure if the ball has stopped yet! So to half time for a much needed rest.
A little bit of tinkering half time and off we went into the second half which carried on in much the same way as the first half. Ripons attacks being smothered by player of the match Hannah K and her defensive partners ellie and sophie.Hannah has been a rock in the heart of defence this season and marshals the team very well from the back and put in yet another outstanding display,well done Hannah.Every player that came on had a part to play and each showed how good a player they all are.Not one player can rest on their laurels and think their place is safe each week as there is always a player who could take their place if they don't play to the top of their game.This is how strong a side they are now.Between the changing midfield of molly w,rebecca s,georgie r,emma c,molly m and rebecca c they kept up the pressure on ripon and molly w helped herself to yet another goal to make it 3-1.Late on an outstanding run from her own half molly w went on a mazy run which led to an unforunate own goal by a ripon defender but all credit must go to molly.So 4-1 and this is how it ended.
Well done to all girls, and lets not forget this is a great a team made up of a squad of players who some have had to miss out some weeks due to league rules.Remember every single one of the squad have all played their part this season so all should be rightly proud of themselves and their unselfish attitudes shown all for the cause of their team.Lets keep the momentum going and who knows what they can achieve?
Lets have some fun next week with a club training session at percy fields starting 10am.
