A slightly under strength team lost out to the leagues best team in the cup. With Olivia and Saffy both poorly the girls were soon under pressure and found it hard to clear their lines against a strong wind. York soon raced into a 3 -0 lead despite Lizzie making some fine saves and both Charlottes defending for their lives! The second half saw a big improvement as we were much quicker to the ball and Molly and Elizabeth did some fine work as the rain lashed down. Ellie was her usual outstanding self and came closest to scoring and Jess and Victoria imposed themselves more on the game. We couldn't quite manage a goal but Lizzie and her defence had a much quieter time and we felt we had done ourselves justice in the second half.
In the friendly we were more confident and it showed as we took the game to York. Elizabeth capped a fine display squeezing a goal in from an impossble angle. Charlotte Mc went on her trademak runs from the back and Rose operated as a lone striker holding the ball up and finding space. Ellie ran at the opposition at every opportunity and latched on to a fine pass by Elizabeth to score as well. York managed to squeeze a goal past Vicky to set up a nervous finish but with Jess launching huge throw ins we kept them under pressure and secured the win we deserved.
The girls enjoyed the Hot dogs afterwards and warmed up eventually!
No training for the next two weeks so Enjoy Easter.
We next meet up on the 18th April when we visit Brayton Belles for our final league match.
