U.10's power through to Cup Semi

The girls continued their winning streak by defeating Brayton Belles 2-1 in the cup. We continued our 'double' trend by winning the friendly by the same score.
In a tight game the girls pressed the ball really well and went ahead early on when a good passing move ended with a fine left foot strike by Olivia. Gradually Brayton settled and we came under some pressure but stayed firm with Jess and Vicky determined in the tackle and strong running with the ball. Our strong approach brought us a second goal when Saffy bravely poked the ball home despite the close attentions of the Brayton Keeper.
It looked comfortable for the Scorchers until the coach had a rush of blood and pushed Charlotte forward at a corner only to find a long clearance left us exposed at the back and depite a fine save from Lizzie the rebound was netted.
So 2-1 at half time and we decided that we would now always have 2 at the back. This, and some heroic defending from both Charlottes, Olivia, and Lizzie combined with great cover from Jess and some important saves from Saffy saw us home. Brayton pressed hard but we held out and through the prompting of Eleanor in midfield we even created some more chances.
A fine win then and we travel to York RI for the Semi final on March 28th.
In the friendly game the girls again rose to the challenge and played well enough that in the first half Elizabeth was merely a spectator in goal. At the other end we created lots of chances but the Brayton keeeper was only beaten once, a fine shot by Ellie. More of the same in the second half, with great defending by Mollie and Elizabeth and more good saves from Saffy. In midfield we won the ball over and over with Georgie, Sophie, Emily and Paige all to the fore. After Brayton had equalized our winner came from an amazing run by Charlotte Mc who rounded it off with a fine shot! Player of the day was Saffy for her brave goal and fine saves - well done.
Having won 5 out of our last 6 matches the girls confidence is high and we host top of the table Stamford Bridge next week and hope to cause an upset. 10.30 kick off at the cricket club.
Well Done girls bring it on next week!
