The Under 12's were away at Wetherby, last years league runners up, for their opening fixture of this season and what a performance we put up. Weatherby have been one of the best sides in the league over the past few years and have an excellent record against Scotton but this year we took the game to Wetherby and were it not for some tentative shooting then we would have won the game well. As it was we failed to beat the keeper and had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
The game started brightly and the girls grew in confidence, we dominated possession and must have had at least 8 corners which Ella expertly swung into the danger area time and again. We have been working on passing and making space in training and it started to show as we put together passing move after passing move to make ourselves some great opportunities. The first half was frustrating in attack but when we needed to defend we did this well and Sam, in goal for the first half, played her part in making a couple of vital stops.
The second half was much the same as the first, with plenty of action in the Wetherby half but unfortunately no goals to show for it.
On this occasion the Wetherby defence was just too good on the day but the prospects are looking good for the rest of the season if we can repeat this performance.
Well done girls and a special thanks to Rebecca Corcoran and Jade Latimer who both played for the U12's today instead of their normal squad and both had a very positive impact on the game for us.
Well done to everyone.
