SATURDAY 8TH MAY 2010 - U13S LOCAL DERBY REAPS REWARDS

KNARESBOROUGH CELTIC 0 SCOTTON SCORCHERS 6

What a great game of football to end the League campaign!
The Scorchers had a full strength squad to be part of another ‘local derby’!

The first half started and very quickly, the Scorchers got into their game, passing the ball well, keeping possession and put on the pressure! The gallant Celtic defense started well too and a couple of times passed the ball through the middle to catch us on the break.
However, our strength at the back with Jayde L in goal and Hannah K, Ellie C and Becky S at the back made it difficult for Celtic to get through.
But we continued to pressure the opposition, with a fantastic run down the right hand side from Georgie R, whose shot beat the Celtic keeper but just clipped the post! So close!!!
This was to be the story of the first half, constant pressure from the Scorchers who controlled the play, particularly in midfield from Georgie R, Molly W (Captain today) and Becky C, all linking up well with Georgia T and Katy A up front!
On occasions, Celtic did make it a match with some pressure and a whizzing shot just over the bar!
This spurred the Scorchers on and eventually we got our reward!
A fantastic move lead to a scramble in the Celtic box and there was ‘Captain Fantastic’ - Molly W to be on target - 1 nil to the Scorchers!
Towards the end of the half, an injury to Georgie R lead to changes and we held strong until the break, with Emma C dropping into her favourable left back position!

After the break, the girls really did up their game - we started as we finished the first half and the girls really showed how much they were enjoying their football.
Some sweet moves and controlled passing of the ball made it difficult for Celtic to make any attempts on goal. Riah A, who played well in the first half, was in goal for the second half and seemed to have very little to do! Very quickly, the goals started to come - we showed our ability and in the right place was Katy A who made it 2 nil!
Our team as a whole were just playing fantastically well , Georgia T making it 3 nil and Georgie R got her reward to make it 4 nil! The girls looked relaxed now and just continued to push forward!
Despite the scoreline, Celtic didn’t give up and did continue to pressure us through the middle of the field, but once we retained possession we could counter attack!
This paid dividends, as Georgia T got her second of the game - 5 nil to the Scorchers!
Towards the end of the match, it seemed everyone wanted to score and Becky C and Molly W having a go a couple of times!
A minor injury to Georgia T lead to changes, so Katy A and Jayde L went into attack, with Becky S covering the back two of Hannah K & Ellie C!
Hannah K again was like the last match, determined to score and this showed in one of the best moves of the season! A blistering run from right-back, she continued down the wing, passing a couple of players before moving inside and releasing an amazing ‘shot’ which swerved away from the goal - almost but on hand at the back post was Jayde L - in off her knee - to make it 6 nil!

The final whistle blew and although the scoreline maybe flatters the Scorchers, credit to a gallant Celtic team whose heads didn’t drop and made it a great game of football!

The Scorchers team as a whole played a fantastic game of football, looking relaxed, full of committment and enjoying it! Although it was a close call, the Player of the Match today was Georgia T. Her ability to hold the ball up and get those goals were in evidence again today!
Everyone should be proud of what we have achieved throughout the season, confirmed runners up in the League and another League Cup Final (our 4th successive)!
Well done everyone, you are a fantastic squad to coach and we are very proud of each and everyone of you!
GO SCORCHERS!!!
