Fantastic game of football today between two great sides was just edged 1-0 to the tigers but the scorchers were unlucky not to get at least a draw from the game.
The season kicked off with possibly what could be the girls hardest game of the season against a very talented Poppleton side.
Scorchers set up with their now familiar Xmas tree formation,4 at the back 3 in the middle and the lone striker, and soon they were in to their stride comfortably holding a very attacking Poppleton.
GT up front was doing a good job holding the ball up and waiting for Georgie,Molly and Becky S to join up and between them were causing a lot of trouble for the Tigers defence.
The back four of Emma, Ellie, Becky C and Hannah were holding strong and coping with the new offside law very well but one momentary lapse allowed a cross from the left and the tigers striker snuck in and sidefooted past a helpless Jayde in goal.
This didn't get the girls heads down though it actual seemed to make them more determined and they really played well and stuck together as a team and came in at half time 1-0 down.
In the second half Riah went in goal and Jayde pushed up into midfield and linked up well with GT and was unfortunate not to get a goal late on.
The girls really put the tigers under pressure but couldn't get the goal they deserved, Tigers also had a couple of chances, one noticeable shot a superb volley from their player of the game which thankfully Riah tipped around the post.
Even with 5 mins to go the girls didn't give up but actually rallied and pushed on to find the equaliser but alas it was not to be!
I think a draw would've been a fair result but hey sometimes things don't go our way! So next time we'll go looking for the win but apart from the result well done to all players from both teams in what was a cracking start to the season and keep playing like that and I'm sure you'll get your just rewards.
