Scorchers defeat Celtic in tough clash

Scotton Scorchers Girls U11's 3
Knaresborough Celtic U11's 0

Knaresborough Celtic proved difficult opponents as Scotton had to wait until the second half before Georgia scored to ease the tension.Celtic have been fashioned into a decent side by coach Frank Eckert and are certainly no pushovers these days.
In the first half Scotton battled hard to break down the Celtic defence with their excellent keeper proving an impossible barrier. At the other end Jayde did not have much to do as the impressive defensive partnership of Ellie and Hannah energetically kept the Celtic attack at bay.
Scotton coach John decided to have a change of tactics at half time and swapped Jayde out of goal with Mollie. With Josie temporarily on the bench and Rebecca S added to the forward line the new look attack soon caused problems for Celtic.Within five minutes Georgia broke the deadlock shooting between the goalkeepers legs. With Molly W working hard in midfield and the defence remaining solid Scotton looked strong. Jayde proved she is an excellent attacker with several shots on goal but was denied by excellent Celtic goalkeeping. Mollie had a good debut in goal and impressed with a composed performance and a clean sheet. A second goal for Georgia eased Scotton nerves later in the half. With three minutes remaining Josie returned on the pitch and within seconds buried a fierce shot past the hapless Celtic goalkeeper to make John's team selection even harder for the next match.

The league match was followed by a friendly where several U10's played in a competitively fought match. Emma c, Emma P , Rebecca C , Sammy C and new girl Rhea all played really well.Celtic took a one nil lead into the second half until Georgia appeared briefly to score two good goals. Honours were even by the end as Celtic equalised in the last minute. Well done to all the girls!

Many thanks to Richard Thompson for refereeing these matches so well.
