Scorchers girls took on Champions in waiting Ripon City Panthers in our last league game of the season. Panthers needed this win to secure the league and after a nervous start, moved up a gear to cause Scorchers problems galore. Scorchers game plan had been to maximise the defensive strength of the team and minimise Ripons opportunities, however with two defenders unavailable through injury and one away, Scorchers had to re juggle the team formation with Shannon playing at left back and whilst not used to this position acquitted herself admirably. Haley and Emily were resolute in defence both playing solidly and girl of the game Daisy was outstanding in goal pulling off a string of saves and receiving special praise from the Panthers coaches. Midfield of Imogen and Caitlin were excellent and worked hard covering the whole pitch, Caitlin being unlucky to score hitting a powerful shot just over the bar. In attack Kayleigh, Abbie and Melissa all worked hard with Melissa volleying a shot again just over the bar. Panthers were comfortable winners but Scorchers improved tremendously on the earlier Panthers fixture.
Saturday 10th May sees the girls take on Ilkley at Percy Field kick off 11.30am, please be there for 11.00am. This will be our first nine aside game, everyone will play and we welcome any friends who would like to come along and give football a go as we look to bring in 2 or 3 girls for next season. We would also welcome Mum's or Dad's who would like to give coaching a go.
