U14's - Prolific Panthers Give Scorchers A Lesson

Well the U14's, beat the weather but couldnt beat the league champions. The pitch was perfect and the game started well for the Scorchers who took the earlier initiative pressing forward in to the Panthers half. However after an impressive start Panthers stepped up a gear and dominated the game. The Scorchers expected and got a tough game on a larger pitch with larger goals. Daisy in goal pulled off a number of impressive saves, tipping one goalbound shot around the post. With Emily marshalling the defence along side Haley and Philippa they tried everything to keep the Panthers out, working extremely hard to get the tackles in. Olivia made her league debut and did well in coming to terms with a sport that she has just taken up. In midfield Rebecca and Shannon battled hard along with Abbie who received player of the day for her tracking back and overall work rate. Up front chances were limited but Melissa showed some deft touches and good control with Kayleigh, making some good runs and making some early passes. Whilst the game ended in defeat there were a number of lessons we can learn and positives we can take. All the girls worked hard, stuck together, passed the ball better and kept the team shape for large periods of the game. We have seen the 9 aside format and now we need to step up to the challenge and i know the girls will do just that!
