U14's - Thirsk Thriller!!!!

The parents could hardly contain themselves as the Scorchers put in a fantastic performance against Thirsk in this league match. Within a minute of the start Scorchers were in front after a great pass from Emily, Kayleigh raced down the right and from a narrow angle blasted the ball in to the net. It took Thirsk a while to regroup and in the next few minutes Scorchers had chances to make it 2!!. However Thirsk started to mount more serious attacks and whilst the game was very balanced managed to go in 2 to 1 up. This season though the girls are made of sterner stuff and having come back from 2 down last week came out in the second half and did it again, this time Kayleigh went on a determined run down the left and hit the perfect shot beating the keeper. So now it was game on with chances coming thick and fast, the Scorchers worked tremendously hard, Daisy was outstanding in goal and with Hayley and Rebecca great in defence. In midfield Imogen and and Shannon covered every blade of grass getiing forward and back to cover time after time. Emily had a great game with spells up front and in defence. Melissa and Abbie came on as subs as the girls ran out of steam, Abbie making several great runs but unable to get the final shot in, Melissa, leading the line well and in limited time made some good runs. In the final minutes Thirsk scored with a long range effort and and a further quick goal, Scorchers again rallied hitting the post, but in the end it wasnt to be Scorchers day. Player of the day could have gone to a number of players, but in the end went to two goal hero Kayleigh who with her determined runs was unlucky not to get a hat trick.
