U14's Scorchers Battling Performance
With top scorer Kayleigh out with ligament damage and Daisy the cat with a broken rib, the team were missing two key players but still showed they were up for this friendly match against West Riding League side Crossley. Philippa and Rosie were both outstanding in goal and both pulled off spectacular saves. Melissa lead the team out on her birthday and was soon in the thick of the action, creating chances and taking a nasty knock in a tussle for the ball. Playing a long planned new formation the girls took to it well and midfielders Shannon, Imogen and Olivia showed how the formation can work with a disciplined performance keeping positions and moving as a unit.At half time the Scorchers were two down, but had been unlucky on two occasions, with the ball drifting round the post instead of rolling in and a powerful shot that was well saved. Rebecca, played well at left back and left wing as we reshuffled to allow for a couple of knocks, Philippa, played in midfield and defence and looked good going forward. Abbie with great pace had some good chnces but couldnt get any power in to the final shot. Haley was again rock solid in defence and marshalled her colleagues well. Emily made some powerful runs on the left, causing real problems. In the final 5 minutes we conceded two goals as we tired. Today we showed that we can match teams and play some good football well done girls.
