In yet another fantastic advert for girls football this game between two fantastic footballing sides was played out at ripon on saturday morning in a very sporting manner.
Neither team deserved to lose in what was a fantastic game.
This game turned out to be the final game for Pete Colman, the coach of ripon city panthers, and his team did him proud. We wish Pete all the best for the future and thank him for his great work, well done.
So to the action, scotton kicked off (or was it england?in their away shirts (white england shirt))and settled into their usual passing and moving game and were looking very dangerous on the attack.The midfield trio of rebecca s,molly w and georgie r were passing the ball around confidently and finding their captain georgia t upfront who was firing off some great strikes from all over.These girls were well up for this game!With some great moves and shots the team were unlucky not to get a bit more luck and could have been a few goals up on another day.
Hannah and ellie were their usual dominant selves at the back. I don't think I've ever seen two more relaxed defenders than these girls!Riah in goal was barking out her orders and commanding her area, the three subs Jayde,rebecca c and emma were all encouraging their team on. With all this support GT struck the first goal with a sweet right boot (no pun intended mike!) straight in the back of the net.1-0 scorchers.
The way things were going you would have thought they would go on and finish off the game no problem but ripon came right back at them and one great strike was saved with a full length dive to her right by Riah 'the cat' in goal.This kept scorchers in the lead till half time.
In the second half Ripon came at scotton with an onslaught,whatever their manager had said to them had really spurred them on.Rebecca c who had bravely said she would play in goal in the second half kept them at bay though. Jayde was putting a lot of hard work as were all the team in sweltering conditions.Despite this ripon managed to score an equaliser, 1-1.
So scotton were under a lot of pressure and decided to fight fire with fire and went all out on the attack too, despite the manager asking for a little bit of help for the defence! This created a truly fantastic and nailbiting game and both teams had chances to settle the game but it ended in deadlock, full time score 1-1.
EXTRA TIME: Despite some very tired looking girls they all carried on in exactly the same vein as thay had finished in normal time: 100 mph.
Ripon supporters sensed victory and so increased their vocal support but this only seemed to inspire our girls who clinched it in the second period of extra time with a screamer in to the roof of the net by captain fantastic......GEORGIA THOMPSON. Well done girls.
A unanimous decicion by parents and supporters awarded the player of the match to the whole team as they were all fantastic, enjoy it girls as you deserve to.
Two great teams and one great game of football!
