U14's - Olivia Hits A Cracker!!!

Today the girls left the field beaming after this fantastic game which saw the Scorchers narrowly beaten. With a number of players unavailable the team formation looked a little strange, but worked really well.
This game was remarkable for a number of reasons, first it was welcome back to Kayleigh our top scorer for the last 2/3 years, who has been so unlucky with injuries this season. She played despite not been fully fit and gave everything playing at left back to reduce the amount of running required. She came off a couple of times but showed real determination to play on, well done. Daisy had a quiet time in goal (i told you it was remarkable) but made important saves at key stages of the game. Haley as captain had a great game in the heart of the defence and showed real skill going forward too. Philippa, played well in defence and contributed to the half time clean sheet and in the second half played as an attacking midfielder causing real pronlems for Wetherby. Shannon in midfield played at her usual 100mph and was commended by the Wetherby coaches for a great game. Rebecca in midfield for the first time added steel defensively and also created chances up front supporting Rosie, she also found time to get in some brilliantly timed tackles in defence! Olivia with her Dad watching on played an inspired attacking midfield role and gave Rosie some great support. The goals came in the last 15 minutes as the game began to open up, wetherby took the lead but the Scorchers hit straight back with some great passing between Shannon, Rosie and Olivia who then chipped the keeper to score her first ever goal in her first season playing football, absolutely brilliant, the girls and the parents went wild!! So it was game on and the play went quickly from end to end. Wetherby scoring a second with only a few minutes left passing and moving to beat the Scorchers defence. However Scorchers came back again creating a number of chances. In the final minutes, Shannon, Philippa, Rosie, Haley and Shannon again all had shots blocked or saved as Scorchers played for the equaliser but it wasnt to be. A great game played in fine spirit refereed well and an even contest. what more can you ask? Well done girls.
