The U12 arrived for their match with Harrogate Railway on a cold and damp morning at the cricket pitch with only 7 fit players. Lowenna was already ill and Audrey was away so when Georgina and Jes turned up both feeling unwell that left the team with only 7 players fit enough to start.
The team were up to the task however and showed some of the best football that they have played all season, possibly ever. The first half was very tight with some great passing football played by both Scotton and Harrogate, particularly from Maddie and Ella in midfield but also from Molly and Steph in defence, but the only goal came from Emily who latched onto a fantastic pass from Molly which split the defence and enabled Emily to have a clear path to goal where she finished well. We had several other chances, notably from Chloe and Emily and with Ella's corners causing all sorts of problems.
Harrogate were not without their chances but Molly was an absolute rock in defence, putting in the performance of her season, with Steph providing solid cover and Sam proving that she is reliable when called upon in goal
The second half reaped the rewards that the performance deserved with Emily scoring the second with a great strike, Chloe finishing a great corner from Ella (we are not sure which part of her body got the final touch but she went away rubbing her tummy!), Emily then finished a great move to make it 3-0 before Ella then got one of her own following a great cross from Emily. Chloe got her second when she got on the end of yet another cross from Emily and Emily finished then the scoring with the last kick of the game to complete her hat-trick.
Overall then a 6-0 win for the Scorchers with player of the match being a tough decision. Normally any player that gets a hat-trick would be favourite and with a 6-0 scoreline you would not expect a defender to be the player selected, but, Molly was so outstanding in defence, her passing was the best we have seen and her composure when under pressure was so outstanding that Molly was named player of the match, and well deserved it was too.
A great performance by the whole team - well done to you all!!
