On a cold and wet morning at the Cricket Club we finally managed to complete a league game against Wetherby, who were joint second with us at the start of play. Unfortunately Wetherby were under strength but it still required the Scorchers to play their passing game and get some early goals, which is exactly what they did, with Chloe getting 2 and Emily another to give us a very early 3-0 lead.
The passing game that the Scorchers have begun to perfect meant that chances were being created throughout the first half but the score remained 3-0 until a few minutes before the break when Chloe bagged another 2 goals to take her season total to nine and the half time score to 5-0.
In the second half Maddie came out of goal, to be replaced by Chloe, and played with energy and skill in midfield. Jes, Molly and Lowenna all played well in defence and midfield and some well timed tackles and some great passes to the front two meant that the Scorchers probably created the better chances in the second half. When Wetherby did threaten then Georgina, Steph or Molly were always there and we remained tight at the back.
Emily played a great game, creating chances for herself and for others in the team and she soon completed her third hat-trick of the season early in the second half.
Wetherby unfortunately scored a spectacular own goal before both Audrey and Lowenna got their first goals of the season. This means that every member of the Scorchers squad has scored this season, which by anyones standards is a great effort.
Wetherby scored a great consolation goal with the last kick of the game and it was no more thant they deserved after creating a lot of good chances but being thwarted by the Scorchers up to that point.
So 10-1 was the final score and an impressive performance meant that thuis was thoroghly derservced even when considering that Wetherby were under strength.
Well done girls, especially to Maddie who was player of the match for her second half performance.
