YORKSHIRE AMATEURS 14 - SCOTTON SCORCHERS 0
The Girls put in yet another spirited performance against possibly the League’s and Yorkshire’s best team in this age group, even though one or two were carrying injuries.
From the start, the Amateurs put our girls under pressure, with some fine passing movements and a number of shots at our goal, but Jayde’s presence in goal forced a number of shots wide.
We managed to contain them for a while in the middle of the park, for about 15 minutes or so, with excellent pressure from Becky C and Molly, but then the ‘Amas’ managed to break the deadlock with their first goal.
We were caught a number of times on the break, but our girls still managed to hold out, with some fine defensive displays from Ellie (our captain today), Hannah and Becky S.
However, before half time, our opponents managed to get a few more goals, despite a stronger finish to the half by our girls. A number of runs through the middle from Molly and Georgie R on the wing, almost brought us a goal or two back. Every single girl was putting in more than 100% keeping their heads up despite the scoreline.
In the second half, after a number of changes, we started as we finished the first half with some fine runs again from Molly, connecting well with Georgia T and Katy A. Everyone tried putting the training sessions into practice and we looked comfortable both defensively and in attack for the first 10 minutes or so.
We came close from Georgie R’s long distance whizzing shot - just over the bar!
This seemed to stun the ‘Amas’, who very quickly got back into their stride - this team scoring double figures all season and were soon firing a number of times again.
A few fine saves from Becky C in goal in the second half, and Emma C showing how well she has improved this season with some fine tackles at left back and both Rhia and Jayde showing a presence at right back.
However the goals kept coming - maybe one or two with a bit of luck - and an injury to Hannah midway through the second half, forced us to make some more changes.
Becky S played more of a defensive role, trying to stop the attacks through the middle, which was always going to be difficult.
Full Time - 14 nil to the ‘Amas’.
WELL DONE GIRLS!!!
It was a full spirited performance from everyone of the squad and showed their just how much we all work for each other and as a team!
Player of the Day - Molly (for some fine runs and creative play) although everyone should be proud of where we are, their commitment and how well we played today!
