SCORCHERS CombinedU12/U13 2 v 3 Wigton Moor

A combined team played very well against a good wigton moor side today and this friendly match was a very useful tool for both squads to work on some defensive skills.
As we always stress the result does not matter in these friendly matches, these are the games we use to try out different things and there were plenty of plus points taken from this game.
In the first half we had Hannah doing a fantastic job of organising her defensive teammates and keeping a tall strong Wigton side at bay.As ever ably assisted by Jayde behind her who was very vocal.
The first goal was a wonder goal! Georgie Ryan scoring a belter from right out on the sideline and sending the ball soaring over the keepers head, nothing the keeper could have done about that.
Now the second goal was one of the best goals I've seen which started from somewhere near our left back position with rebecca S winning the ball and moving the ball forward to Maddy who in turn found GT up front who then drew in two defenders and played the most perfect defence splitting pass to set up Georgie Ryan again who duly obliged such a great set up and sent the ball flying past the keeper,2-0 to the scorchers.
So in at half time 2-0 up and in the second half things got changed around to make sure everybody got a game.
Wigton Moor also had a big change of personnel and put out an even stronger side and this reflected in the score as they drew level but all the girls played really well from Molly at left back who put in plenty of great tackles against girls twice her side right up to Sam who kept threatening the wigton moor goal with some great runs.
So it looked like being a draw which I think would have been a fair result but unfortunately one lapse of concentration let in a Wigton girl who just managed to squeeze one past GT in goal (Who again did great in goal)and wigton moor went home the 'winners'.
Good game played in the right spirit and are there really any winners or losers in friendlies?(I don't think so!)
All the girls can be rightly proud of their own performances today and it was a very useful training session today.
A big thankyou to Wigton Moor also for giving us a good fair competitive match.
WELL DONE ALL.

GO SCORCHERS!
