U12's finish the season in style

The U12's finished the league season with two victories in the space of 3 days.

On Wednesday the Scorchers secured a 2-1 victory away at Harrogate Railway. A goal from Emily in the first minute suggested that this might be an easy victory but a determined Harrogate side were not to be down hearted and they continued to frustrate the Scorchers who were not really playing as well as we know they can. Harrogate scrambled an equaliser before half time and this meant that the Scorchers knew that they had to work hard if they were to secure a victory.

In the second half things picked up a little but Harrogate continued to frustrate and started to cause us some problems. As ever Molly was very determined in defence, supported by Ella from midfield and Jes, Steph and Georgina all played a part from the substitute bench.

In the second half Sam took over in goal and Maddie went into midfield but it was good work between Emily and Ella which presented Chloe with a good chance which she finished at the third time of asking as the goal keeper made two great saves.

The game ended with the score at 2-1 and the three points were ours, but only just. Molly was awarded player of the match for another great defensive performance.

On Saturday the sun was out and on a packed cricket club pitch the Scorchers improved a little on Wednesday but managed to beat Harrogate 8-1. The scoreline flattered us a little but we saw a great hat-trick from Emily, including one from her own half, two great goals from Ella, one finishing a stinging cross from Emily and one direct from a corner. Maddie also got on the score sheet direct from the second half kick off when she took the ball past a defender and shot low into the bottom corner.

Chloe also got on the score sheet with a great finish to settle the nerves in the first half and overall she put in a much better performance than Wednesday with some great runs and crosses.

The second half was also the half when Steph showed some great touches in defence and moving into midfield and we also saw Jess try out her goal keeping skills, which were, when called on, not bad at all!

Player of the match was Emily for her all round hard work, a hat-trick and good captaincy.
