Seven great performances, seven great goals and one outstanding team performance, saw the Scorchers to a fine victory over Brayton Belles. However from the start Brayton started the most lively, and it was only a fine tackle from todays captain Charlotte that prevented Brayton taking an early lead!!
This sparked the scorchers in to action and their first goal, Ella, taking the direct route to goal giving the keeper no chance. With Beth in defence alongside Charlotte they both kept their concentration dealing with break aways created by Brayton and made key challenges when required, they kept their shape well and were supported by Amelia in goal who looked comfortable throughout the game, pulling off saves when needed. Emma was given the job of covering the defence and holding the midfield together, not only did she do this well but got forward to score too! a deserved goal that has been coming for the last couple of games. On the right Alice played some great attcking football and was unlucky not to score, as a cross from Ella on the left went right through the defence past Naimh and Emma, on to Alice's right foot, but just went wide. On the left Ella was again great going forward, setting up chance after chance but also worked back well too. Up front debutant Naimh played a great game linking well with midfield and running at the Brayton defence time and again. Half time Scorchers were 3 goals up!
In the second half, maintaining positions the girls really got going passing the ball and supporting each other, the attacking was relentless and further goals followed. Brayton though did not give up and if it hadnt been for a key tackle by Alice could have scored. With the clock ticking down, changes were made with Charlotte and Beth moving forward in to midfield. The final score Brayton nil Scorchers 7. (Goals from Emma 2 Ella 2 Naimh 3) Players of the day were Emma for 2 great goals and following the team plan as holding midfield and Naimh for all round great attacking play and 3 goals. Coach Rebecca said after the game that anyone of them could have been player of the day, as it really was a great team performance. (Future quiz question, which Scotton players scored hat tricks on their debuts for the Scorchers Tigers??!)
In the second game the same team took to the field, with some changes, Alice volunteered to go in goal and did really well, Charlotte went in midfield alongside Amelia, Emma dropped in to left back and the remaining players stayed in position. The game was evenly balanced and Brayton played with real pride, coming back with an equalizer after Ella had given the Scorchers the lead.
