U14s Knaresborough Celtic 0 v Scotton Scorchers 0

The U14s made the short trip to Knaresborough Celtic's Thistle Hill ground for their latest league clash.

The first fifteen minutes saw first one side then the other race to the attack, but gradually Scotton began to get the majority of possession and to look the more threatening team. Twice Molly ran the ball in from the right, the first time giving Katy a chance to pounce that was just foiled by the keeper, and the second having a good shot herself. Two corners followed in quick succession but Celtic still managed to keep the ball out.

Play then ebbed and flowed until Molly again charged for goal, only to be apparently tripped a few yards out: However the referee (who was closer to the action than the spectators) called for play to continue and once more Celtic broke out down the field. However possession quickly changed again and first Hannah had a good run (culminating in a shot which was blocked by the keeper) then shortly before half-time a strike from Georgie went just wide of the post.

A couple of changes were made at the break, with Caira and Becky C joining the game, Katy and Jayde going off, and Riah entering goal.

The second half carried on where the first had left off, with the ball passing from end to end at great pace but neither side managing to put together a killer move. The Scorchers' cohesion was perhaps slightly affected by a couple of enforced substitutions - first Becky C and then Jayde (who came on as sub) having to go off following accidental injuries. Nevertheless the forwards continued to put pressure on Celtic (Georgia putting in a particularly battling performance and having a great shot at goal) but each time being denied by good defending. For their part Knaresborough took every opportunity to break out, but in turn were thwarted by Scotton's back four (Ellie again proving to be a rock in defence).

In the dying minutes Scotton again surged forward and Ellie came up to have a last shot at goal - though powerfully struck it went just wide of the post, so the score ended at 0-0 as the final whistle blew.
