In a game that saw mixed weather Scotton performed consistently well
and although Celtic did offer up threats these were usually defended
solidly by Ellie, Becky S and Ciara. On the one real shooting chance by
Celtic in the 20th minute, Jayde pulled off a great save, the ball held
solidly to deny any follow up. Great one touch passing in mid field
between Emily, Becky C and Georgie R provided GT and Molly
opportunities with either blistering shots or lightning runs resulting
in the Celtic keeper and defence often called upon.
In the 25th minute after another great clearing ball from Ellie that
found GT, GT found time to control the ball and with a blistering low
shoot the keeper was eventually beaten, 1-0. Towards the end of the
first half and as the rain came down, Emily with a great interception
and a pass to match put Molly in for in for a lightning run past two
defenders and the subsequent shot pushed wide by the keeper. The first
half concluded with a deserved 1-0 lead to Scotton.
As the second half commenced Riah subbed Jayde in goal and continued to
keep good guard and give confidence to the back line, Scotton kept
menacing the Celtic defence and one of the many of the many corner
kicks from Georgie R hit the inside of the post and bounced out. It was
just a matter of time before Scotton scored a second then in the 48th
minute the keepers well struck goal kick found GT and again good
control and another low blistering shot beat the keeper for a second
time, 2-0. Then 2 minutes later with a powerful Ellie cross come shot
which took a wicked bounce and deceived the keeper a 3rd time,3-0 game
over. The last twenty minutes and Celtic never gave up but Scotton
continued on, Celtic's keeper pulled of some great saves to deny both
Molly and GT.
The hard work and great close knit passing by all of the Scotton team
most optimised by the display of Becky C who deservedly picked up player
of the match.
