The U15s bowed out of the cup today at Poppleton.

A slightly understrength team missing two key players, which may or may not have changed the outcome today, took on a very strong Poppleton side and unfortunately came off second best!
The girls started with a brand new defensive set up of Ellie,Riah,Emily and Jayde (who bravely played despite carrying an injury) and had Ciara,Becky,Molly and Georgie across the midfield with GT playing her now famous role upfront by herself.
On a very small pitch not conducive to the girls expansive passing and 'total football' style the girls dug in well for the first 10 mins and held Poppleton at bay and more than match their opponents with some dogged tough tackling.
Once the girls had come to terms with the style of the game they then started to play some football and carried the game to poppleton with some great link up play between the midfield players and GT, this caused some concern in the Poppleton team but unfortunately the girls couldn't capitalise on their dominance in this stage of the game.
Poppleton themselves rode Scottons pressure and from a corner a weak looking shot somehow squirmed its way into the Scotton goal to put 'Poppy'into a 1-0 lead and this is how the score remained going into half time.
The girls came off at half time discussing where they thought the problems were coming from and then discussed what they could do to combat it. This was really good to see as instead of being told by their coach how to play fotball they were making their own decisions which will only enable them to become better players and improve as a team.
So after a good half time chat the girls went back out to face a very fired up Poppy side.
Unfortunately for the girls Poppy grabbed an early goal to go 2 nil up and this seemed to really knock the wind out of the Scorchers girls.
Some of the team reacted really well to this and really raised their game but some of the girls were visibly deflated and the scoreline was never in doubt from this stage on.
Poppy went on to score 5 (albeit one definitely offside but it didn't matter!) and were deserved winners but credit to the Scorchers girls they battled on stuck to their game and tried to play football in difficult circumstances.
Good luck to Poppleton and on that form they will take some beating.
Well done to all the Scorchers girls and especially to the girls who must have been shattered after doing a marathon Sport Relief event yesterday, every one of the girls today did superbly and I hope they all get a well deserved rest now after a busy few days.
Girl of the game today was Emily Bulled who was outstanding putting in some fantastic challenges and playing some great passes down the line.
So the girls put today's game down to experience and we move forward and learn from this game to help us become better moving forward.Lets concentrate on our next game and take things one game at a time and make sure we set up right for the next game and we'll soon be back to our best.
On a positive note we now have an extra date available to hopefully fulfil our league fixtures!!!
WELL DONE GIRLS today keep smiling and keep enjoying your football.
