U15s Poppleton 2 v 1 SCORCHERS

PHEWWW!!!
Well the U15s finally got to the end of the season within the league deadline and what a corker of a match against their old adversaries Poppleton.
The game was a great showpiece of first and second place teams in the league and it was a belter of a game played in an highly competitive but sporting manner.

Scotton for maybe only the second time this season turned out with a full compliment of players.
The game kicked off in cold conditions but the Scorchers soon turned up the temperature with what could be their fastest start of the season and really took the game to Poppleton.
Every single one of the girls was at full pelt and even the substitutes were getting involved with some great vocal support of their team mates.
All the girls were getting first to the ball and winning all the headers and kept Poppleton in their own half for the majority of the first half and I'm sure the Poppy team had probably never had a harder half of football in the CYGFL than this mornings game.
Unfortunately for the Scorchers despite all their dominance the Poppy goalkeeper was having the game of her life and thwarted attack after attack and must have made at least 6 goal bound saves.
GT did manage to beat  their keeper with one fantastic strike with a sweetly struck shot right into the bottom corner of the goal to put the Scorchers 1nil up though and all looked well.

In the second half the teams swapped ends and Scorchers had to play up the hill and they knew that the Poppy girls would be hungry for goals but on the first half performance the girls must have felt quite confident.
The second half started as a very end to end affair but slowly but surely Poppleton started to pressurise the Scorchers team and just seemed to be slightly sharper and sneaked an equaliser. 1-1!
The Scorchers coach moved things around a little bit and and again the Scorchers girls put concentrated pressure on the Poppy goal but again couldn't get the ball past the inspirational Poppy keeper.
One more slip up in the game led to the Poppy girls claiming their second goal and ultimately the win which did seem a little harsh on the Scorchers girls but thats football for you and sometimes things don't always go your way!
 FINAL SCORE 2-1
Captain was Georgia Thompson and girl of the game was Georgie Ryan

All in all a fantastic game of football between 2 great football teams who will share the title on points if Poppy can overcome Ripon in their final game but ultimately Poppy will be crowned champions due to the leagues goal difference rule. So Scorchers girls stay stop after their last game but may just get pipped to the post by a very talented Poppy side.

WELL DONE SCORCHERS to another fantastic season in which we have seen some amazing performances and great football played, hope all girls have enjoyed the season and look forward to wearing our NEW KIT next season. (So tell your friends about our new kit and what a great club we are and get them to come along and play)
