CYGFL TOURNAMENT - SUNDAY 27TH MAY 2012

U15s GIRLS SHOW THEIR DOMINENCE!!!

WOW…WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY!!!!

Well our final matches of the season were about to start… at the CYGFL Annual Tournament hosted by Poppleton JFC.
With the withdrawal of one of the teams, the format changed slightly… 7 teams playing each other once, with the top two going through to the final!
The emphasis today was for our girls to finish the season enjoying themselves and above all, have fun!!
Our squad was Ellie C, Georgie R, Rebecca C, Jayde L, Rebecca S, Emily B, Emily T and a warm welcome to Lydia W & Phoebe W!!
With only 10 minutes per match in the group stages, there wasn’t much time for a slow start!! In our first two matches against Stamford Bridge and Scarborough respectively, we played really well, keeping things tight and working hard despite the heat. A few great shots on goal! Two points on the board and no goals conceded!
Next match - verses Fulford, there was some great passing, and finally a breakthrough - goals from Ellie & Becky C saw us pick up our first win!! A tough match followed against our friends and much improved Thornton Dale - difficult to breakdown but again, the girls worked hard and picked up another point!
A quick turnaround followed, Phoebe picking up a slight injury, but a good result would take off the pressure, as other results were filtering through! Again, the girls showed their dominance and two goals from Ellie gave us our second win - 7 points, nothing conceded and +4 GD.
We had a short break, as Wayne & Mike checked out other results. It was all down to the last match - verses our league rivals Poppleton! Well done to Becky C for keeping an eye on Poppletons system of play - so after a short team talk, the match commenced! The girls started brilliantly, closing down, lots of pressure and effectively taking control of the game! 0-0 - a vital point which was not only enough to see Scotton U15s progress to the final, but also win the group stage on a better goal difference!!
Played 6 - Won 2, Draw 4 - GD +4 - 8 points

The Final - Scotton Scorchers v Poppleton
It was a slow start, and maybe just the heat was taking its toll - within a few minutes Poppleton were 3 nil up!! Never mind - we lifted our heads and started to play how we know we can! A short half time break - and the girls knew what to do!
The second half saw our girls contain Poppleton but that elusive goal just wouldn’t some. Final result 3-nil to Poppleton!

Despite the final result and the heat, I would like to thank all of the squad for their hard work, togetherness and the fantastic spirit in which they played and conducted themselves today (and making Lydia and Phoebe welcome)!! Georgie & Ellie showed great leadership as joint captains today!!!
Thank you to all parents (and Kirsty) for their continued support which makes such a difference!
Well done and proud of every one of our girls today!!! We hope you all had fun and enjoyed the day!!
Have a great summer - enjoy the Euros, Olympics and hope to see you all in August!!
Apologies for the delay in posting of this report!!
GO SCORCHERS!!
