In their new kit provided by the Professional Footballers Association the Scorchers took to the field in their first Premier League encounter against Scarborough.
Game 1
Annabel started in goal and was the busier of the two keepers as Scarborough set the pace of the game and created the early chances. With a slight change to the teams formation, the Scorchers started to find their way in to the game. Good combination play betweem Ella on the left and Caroline in attack brought the first goal and Caroline took the chance with a clinical finish. On the right Emma, put real pressure on the Scarborough defence and had chances to increase the lead. Scarborough continued to create chances but if they got beyond Charlotte B and Charlotte M Georgia covered brilliantly on one occasion sharp thinking enabled her to head back to Annabels waiting arms.
A fabulous pass on the left put Caroline through and again cool finishing saw the ball hit the back of the net, before roles were reversed and Caroline set up Ella to put the Scorchers 3.0 up at half time.
Scarborough came charging out in the second half, and created a number of chances with Scotton still looking dangerous on the break, with Emma having chances on the right. Just when it seemed we had weathered the storm, a defensive clearance didnt quite come off and the ball ended in the back of the net!!
The Scorchers remained calm and stuck to their plan, however a second Scarborough goal came from good play on their left and a bit of ball watching from the Scorchers, 3.2. Again the Scorchers kept their concentration and saw the game out at 3.2. A fine win. Girls of the game went to Caroline for 2 great goals and hard work up front linking well with Ella, who also scored one and set up the other two.
Game 2
Saw Amelia in goal with Charlotte B at left back and Chloe at right back. This defensive unit played some solid football and kept Scarborough at bay for much of the game. With Amelia's quality distribution many attacks were created and midfield had freedom to get in to attacking positions.
Katherine sat in the middle of the field winning the ball with enthusiastic tackling and good tracking back, up front Ella continued with her stylish panache. On the right Abby, got forward and joined the attack putting Scarborough under pressure, Emma ran the mid field along with Charlotte M. Scarborough again took the lead but were soon under pressure as the Scorchers levelled the score with Ella grabbing her second of the day. In the second half players switched position, Katherine played deeper and helped a tiring defence as Scarbough threw players forward. Bethan on the right kept the Scarborough defence on their toes and pressed forward at every opportunity. Another great game and a final score of 1.1.
Girl of the game went to Katherine playing a defensive midfield role, requiring concentration and an ability to read the game.
Two thoroughly enjoyable games, great individual and team play, well done to all the girls.
