U16s SCORCHERS 1 v 0 Scarboro

Sorry no pics this week as our resident camera man was away on a course so just my enthralling write up!!!

On saturday morning Scarborough Ladies made the long journey from the coast to a soggy Percy fields and really made the scorchers girls work for the win.
The scorchers had the full team to select from for a change and even had the luxury of two subs with Emily T again helping out.
The girls passed the ball around superbly and supported the player on the ball very well and covered up and defended well when required but just could not find the back of the net!

In the first half the girls hit the post, the bar and the Scarboro Ladies' keeper made a string of fine saves but nobody could find the back of the net so the teams went into half time level at 0-0.

The second half went in pretty much the same way but with Scarboro posing a real threat on the counter so the Scorchers defence really had to stay on their toes. The girls threw everything at the Scarborough goal but it just seemed that it was not to be their day but with 5 mins left the girls went for bust and went to 2 at the back 3 in the middle and 3 up front and the gamble played off when from a great corner into the box Becky S managed to bundle the ball over the line to make it 1-0!!
Phew the relief was unbelievable, not a classic one but maybe a crucial one.

This may have been difficult for the Scarborough Ladies to take as they had clung on for so long and had defended with great courage but they could be proud of their efforts.

So the game ended 1-0 to the Scorchers, well played by all and well done to Becky C who was girl of the game for a great first half in controlling the midfield and also when in goal in the second half for spurring her team mates on. Well done to GT who as captain kept her team mates belief going and inspired them to the win.
As ever all the girls played their part and a big thankyou to Warren for refereeing and to all the supporters who encouraged all the girls (both teams) and gave Scarborough a warm welcome.
Sorry if I have forgotten anyone but if I have THANKYOU aswell!!

P.s The Scarboro coach reported that Scorchers had 27 shots on goal to their 5, so the learning point this week may well be that the girls are gonna have to get a bit more accurate with their shooting.
