U16 Thornton Dale 2 v SCORCHERS 2

Again these two teams couldn't be split and played out a thrilling 2all draw this morning.
Pictures from the match SLIDESHOW

Scorchers girls arrived early with a full squad(all 9 of them now!!) for a good warm up and team talk which seemed to work wonders as the girls came flying out the traps and raced into a 2 nil lead with great strikes from GT and Molly.
All the girls were playing really well and Jaydes extra training at the PDC looked to be paying off and looked solid in goal and also distributed the ball well.
With the girls 2nil up and looking comfortable there came a cruel twist when Ellie superbly intercepted a shot from Thornton and it bounced up and struck her hand in the box....PENALTY!!
Harsh as it seemed these are the rules and no blame can be placed on Ellie at all, thats the way football goes!
Thornton duly dispatched the ball into the corner and the Scorchers went into half time 2-1 up.

In the second half Thornton really came at the Scorchers girls and a fantastic battle was played out between the teams.
Scorchers witheld the pressure and countered and the game ebbed and flowed but Thornton looped a shot over the Scorchers keeper into the net to make the scores level.
Well this is when an already exciting game really kicked off with both teams going for the winner and you could see the determination on all the girls faces.
The game really opened up and the Scorchers girls counter attacked with great pace and GT almost grabbed the winner with an excellent header from a corner but alas it was not to be.

A draw was probably a fair result, so smiles and handshakes all round. Well played both teams.

Girl of the game was Emily Bulled who stuck to her task of keeping a very tricky skillful winger quiet and also setting up some great counter attacking, well played. A special mention to Becky C who captained the girls very well today and always leads by example, well done Becks.

Keep up the good work girls and......

GO SCORCHERS!!
