PHEW!!!! PROUD PROUD PROUD......what more can i say than that after this mornings game and result for the 6 scorchers girls and what they achieved in this mornings game.
The girls were always up against it with only having 7 available players but just before kick off things got even worse when Emily was unable to play due to a foot injury (Hope you get better soon), so the scorchers had to come up with a game plan for 6v9.
Luckily the girls have worked hard on underload and overload in training and this came to the fore in the game.
The plan was to stick tight in the middle and then hope to break on the counter attack and this was working very well and the Scorchers actually started the stronger and were soon threatening the Stamford goal.
I think Stamford (and us as coaches and parents) were shocked to see such determination from the super six!
This game was not all one way traffic though as with the lack of players this created plenty of space for Stamford to exploit and they did this half way through the first half to go 1-0 up and I for one thought this was just going to be one of those gallant efforts where the girls would just lose out despite putting in a super human effort.
So despite the goal and the girls looking absolutely shattered they lifted themselves again and just before half time Ellie poked the ball goalward from about 6 yards out and then we all just willed the ball across the line....GOOOOAALLLL!!!! 1-1 and half time!
Well the belief in the girls went up another notch in the half time team talk and this reflected in the second half with GT rounding off an immense game with 2 goals to finish off a shellshocked Stamford. GT deserved those goals today for her sheer hard work, they may not have been classic goals but they were goals from sheer determination and grit. Well done girl hope them feet get better soon!!
Thankyou Stamford for todays game and do not be too down hearted today as I don't think anything was going to stop these 6 girls in this mood. This was just one of those once in a lifetime performances!
