HARD FOUGHT LOCAL DERBY FOR U16S GIRLS!!

Saturday 21st September 2013
Knaresborough Celtic U16 Girls 2 - Scotton Scorchers U16 Girls 2

Well – what a way to start the new season, than by meeting our local rivals Knaresborough Celtic, at Thistle Hill!
Our squad looked strong, with Sam C in goal, a defence of Georgina , Lowenna  and Molly, midfield of Honor, Becky C (captain for today), Chloe and Eloise with Emily T leading the attack! Emma P was keeping the bench warm to start with!
The first match of a new season is always tough, with a long summer break and little time to get back to into the ‘zone’.
After a slow start (probably friendly banter between the two teams), Scotton started to show dominance – with a few attacking moves from the middle of the park – Chloe and Emily T giving the Celtic defence something to think about. This was followed by a strong line held by the Scorchers defence keeping the Celtic attackers at bay!
Then the breakthrough – a ball played through to Chloe who made a fantastic strike!
1 nil to Scotton – justly deserved!
Celtic, although going a goal down, showed character – and an individual piece of skill saw them draw level. 1-1!
It was end to end stuff – however, with Georgina not feeling well, a change was made. Emma P went out to the wing, Eloise dropping to right back! This change seemed to inspire the Scorchers. Great dribbling skills from Emma T and strength shown by the Scorchers midfield lead to a great ball over the top (route 1) from Honor – Chloe taking the ball well and calmly putting it past the Celtic keeper!
Half Time and 2-1 to Scotton!
After the break, a change was made – Georgina back on to give Becky C a breather – again, Scotton started well, but a strike from Celtic saw Sam C fingertip the shot onto the bar! A wake up call to the Scotton defence!
We continued to press for that third goal – but Celtic seemed to be gaining momentum!
Becky C went back on to strengthen the defence, Eloise needing a breather too!
Inevitably, it was another piece of individual skill from Celtic attack that saw them draw level 2-2! And that’s how it finished!!
This was a great match for the neutral -  a hard fought local derby that had spirit and high energy from both teams, goals and a great ‘friendly’ rivalry!!
Scotton probably deserved the three points, but a score draw was probably a fair result! Fantastic team performance by the Scorchers – and lots of positives to take into the next match!
Well done everyone!! Player of the Match – Chloe Marshall!!
