U14 - Matches Update

The U14's continue with back to back matches and it's a thriller of a season!!

Scotton Scorchers 3 Wetherby 2

After an earlier encounter we knew it would be another close affair. The Scorchers started brightly and with nearly a full turn out we had the opportunity to rotate players. The Scorchers took control and with our attacking play really flowing hit 2 goals, from in form striker Caroline, supplied and supported by Abby G, Emma and Ella. However, Wetherby had their share of possession with Katherine making some good saves, and our defence looking solid, then there were 5 minutes of mayhem, Bethan who was brilliant but had been truly tested at right back, was hit point blank range in the face, she was straight back up and keen to keep playing, but soon realised she couldnt, feeling dizzy and confused, (turned out she was concussed but was confirmed ok at hospital later) at the same time Caroline took a knock and we had to make 2 rapid substitutions. With the girls concerned for Bethan Wetherby went straight on the attack and scored, then followed it up with a wicked cross that Captain Chloe could only divert round Katherine in to the empty net.
2 goals each, or so i thought!, busty first aiding i missed Caroline put us back in front. Georgia went in goal Katherine came out and a tense game ensued. Midfield held firm, Emma and Ella tracked back and Charlotte, Naimh, Alison, Abby A all played their part in keeping Wetherby at bay, the Scorchers had more chances but couldnt get another goal hitting the post again!
Final Score 3.2 to the Scorchers. A frantic game where we got our subs muddled but stuck together to win the game. Player of the day was Caroline with a hatrick, special mention to Bethan who was incredibly brave when she really didnt know where she was! Thanks to Paul who refereed the game and Andy who guided the team to a fine win.

Scotton Scorchers 6 Brooklyn 1
Whilst the score line might not show it this game was fairly even at 2.1until Ella hit a spectacular shot from outside the area to give us some breathing space. Caroline hit 5 yes another 5!! and the team played with real determination and flare on a really cold wintry day. With both our keepers unavailable it was Alyson who stepped in to goal andhad an outstanding game. Abby A played up front and showed what a lively striker she can be using her pace to real effect and hitting the post three times!!!!!! On another day she could have scored 5 or 6 but the ball just would not go in. Charlotte Amelia and Chloe were tremendous in defence, Charlotte switching to right back as if she always played there. But girl of the game went to Emma, who was amazing, not just her usual attacking style but covering the defence and breaking down the Brooklyn attacks. Brooklyn got a deserved goal as Chloe ended on her bum as Alyson flew out to clear the shot. Another great mornings football. Thanks to Andy who stepped in and refereed the game, and Pete running the line.

Fulford 1 Scorchers 0
Andy and i felt this was probably our performance of the season so far against a strong Fulford team, with nothing in this game chances were rare. the game was decided by a brilliant long range unstoppable shot in to the top corner. Our defence stopped their imposing striker, and midfield tracked back like never before! Ella tried a few long range shots of her own but when the keeper parried no one was on hand to put the ball away. Abby G was girl of the game, terrific running and control, Abby A had a tough job up front alone, but couldnt get on the end of any of our half chances. Her best chance saw her one on one with the keeper, Abby was lightning quick but the keeper closed down well and blocked the goal bound shot. Naimh slotted in to defence helping out on the left and right and was untroubled throughout, showing some accomplished touches. In the end maybe we deserved a draw, but hey thats football!!

Scorchers 1 Poppleton 4
League and Cup winners Poppleton were our next opponents and with a strong line up of our own we felt we could give them a game. We reminded the girls that our previous half time scores against Poppleton were 0.0 and 2.1 so we had a real chance. Scorchers started well and had the better chances, the Poppleton keeper was in good form. As the game progressed Poppleton began to play flowing football and took the lead. With all the play on their left the Scorchers tried to build a defence to keep them out and with solid play and Alyson resolute in goal half time was 1.0.  We stressed the importance of not conceding early but despite our best efforts Poppleton got a second. The game began to open up and we succesfully got the ball to Caroline on the edge of the box but couldnt get support to her quickly enough. Then a great through ball put Caroline in and without hesitation hit the ball home.... well on a boggy pitch it seemed to take a while but cross the line it did and it was game on!!! Amelia (girl of the game) today on the left under constant pressure held her nerve and tackled without fear, Charlotte, Bethan, Chloe did the same Georgie played in front of the defence then at right back, Emma, Ella defended and defended, but whilst we got the players back we couldnt hold out and conceded the key goal 3.1. So we decided the best form of defence is attack and left just 2 back and pushed up, we created chances but not enough to really trouble their keeper, Caroline hit a shot over the bar but a fourth goal went in and the result was Poppleton's. Another great game tremendous effort by all the girls. Keep working the results will come. Thanks to Paul who refereed the game really well and to Paul who assisted with the team and ran the line. Best wishes to Katherine, whio is missing her football at the moment, hope to see you back soon.
