Scotton GU12 1 Ilkley 1

After last week’s performance against Wetherby we were looking to continue our improving form with another good performance against Ilkley.   The game started with a new look defensive unit with Jade again starting in goal with Izzy and Amy in fount of her.
For the majority of the first half we had most of the possession and created Ilkley numerous problems.   Dannie and Emily both had good opportunities to put us ahead but unfortunatly could not make the break through. Anya slotted in on the left of midfield and made a number of telling passes.
When Ilkley threatened Izzy and Amy managed to cope fairly comfortable with Amy in particular getting to grips very well with her new position.   She made some typical strong challenges and covered very well as required.
Typically after being on top for most of the first half and restricting Ilkley to very few opportunities we fell to a very late sucker punch. Ilkley broke and finished very well past Jade who had no chance with the shot.

0-1   At half time.

At half time we regrouped and made a couple of changes. Hannah came on for Anya in midfield and Katie replaced Izzy in defence.  After taking a while to settle and losing a bit of the momentum we managed to gain as the first half went on we started again to create chances.  However Ilkley were a lot stronger in the second half and looking a decent well organised side which made it was a lot tighter match.

We kept pushing for the equaliser however as the game went on it looked like it was just going to be “one of those days”  Both sides had chances  as the half went on but Jade having another solid performance in goal and well assisted by Katie and Amy managed to keep Ilkley at bay.   Olivia came on for Emily halfway into the second half with Alice replacing Hannah shortly afterwards.  We continued.

As the game entered the final few minutes and heading for defeat we managed to get Ellie Mc through on goal.   As she advanced she hit a cracking looping shot that appeared to hang in the air for ages. All held their breath as it dropped over the keeper to land in the top right hand top corner and the roar went up.  The relief was there for all to see as we managed to get the well-deserved equaliser that even Ilkley coach said we were well worth.

In the second game we played a nine aside game where again we had players experiencing playing different positions to gain experience.   All worked hard and again it was a fairly tight match with few chances.  However In the second half Emily made a bit of space for herself on the edge of the box and finished well to seal the game for Scotton.

Player of the match was Amy for an outstanding performance in a new position in defence.

Leeds United Academy Hosts Scorchers Training Sessions!!

Thanks to Leeds United Centre of Excellence, our U10 and U14 squads were invited to join up with the Leeds United girls for some joint training sessions. After an initial shyness the girls all got stuck in and were a real credit to the Scorchers. Some terrific training drills and fantastic play from all the girls. A fantastic opportunity which i am sure the girls really enjoyed and benefitted from too.

U14 Girls - Scotton 1 v Copmanthorpe 2

Another terrific nail biter of a game!!

The Scorchers started well and pressed forward at every opportunity, Copmanthorpe deefended resolutely, at times most players from both teams were in the penalty area but the goal wouldn't come. Then against the run of play Copmanthorpe were ahead!! The Scorchers kept their cool and kept playing some stylish football, but still the goal wouldnt arrive. Then from incisive running from player of the day the goal came, Abi G crossed from the left for Caroline to stab home the equaliser. The Scorchers continued to attack hitting the post (yes again!!) and as both teams tired with the clock ticking down Copmanthorpe hit a long range shot that beat Katherine (who was again outstanding) to take all three points. Another good performance from the whole team with Amelia making her debut the squad looks in good shape for an exciting season.

U14 Girls - Matches Coming Thick and Fast!!!!!

Ripon City Panthers v Scotton U14
The Scorchers were off to a flying start with chances galore and Caroline opening her account for the season prodding the ball home with the keeper beaten. But it soon became clear that the Panthers were no push over! and started getting a grip on the game. The pressure lead to a penalty and Katherine pulled off a tremendous save. Half time 1. nil and all to play for! the scond half Scorchers made changes with a full squad to choose from they bolstered the midfield and planned to counter attack, however Ripon stepped up a gear and despite a good all round team performance and terrific saves from Katherine and Georgia (tipping one shot spectacularly over the bar), it wasnt our day as Ripon scored 3. The Scorchers hit the post which may have changed the game again, but it wasnt to be. Girl of the game Katherine for an outstanding performance in goal. Special mention to Abi G and Alyson making their debut's for the Scorchers, well done girls. Captain Emma.

Wetherby v Scotton U14
So straight on to Wetherby and another very close game, the Scorchers went 1 nil up, then 1.1, then at half time 2.1 to the Scorchers. The second half started and Wetherby were back to 2 all, and the Scorchers had to dig deep. Two quick goals from the Scorchers ended the Wetherby challenge and then as subs were about to be made the Scorchers hit a 5th. Abi came on and used terrific pace and strength to make it 6. Captain Ella.

This was a close game with Chloe outstanding and girl of the game, and a special mention for Caroline who put 5 in the net in a truly outstanding performance, well done to all the girls.

K Celtic v Scotton Scorchers U14
Away again and this time a derby match!

With a small squad the girls were prepared to dig in and battle for the result today. They started well going 1 up, only for Celtic to equalise. However Ella capitalised on a mistake and and scored her first of the season, stroking the ball home from the left. So half time and 2.1. the Scorchers started brightly and looked to extend their lead, half a yard extra and Ella would have scored 3 or 4! BUT again the opponents drew back level and the game was set up for a grandstand finish, Caroline hit the post, and as the game looked like being a draw, Celtic hit the winner. There was still time for one last Scorchers attack but the goal wouldnt come. Another great game. Player of the day went to Alyson who worked tirelessly for the team, creating chances and stopping opponents play. But today was also a team effort, with no subs and 2 not fully fit the girls can be proud of their performance.

Next up it's Copmanthorpe at home Percy Field kick off 10.30am - see you there!!!
