After last week’s performance against Wetherby we were
looking to continue our improving form with another good performance against
Ilkley. The game started with a new
look defensive unit with Jade again starting in goal with Izzy and Amy in fount
of her.
For the majority of
the first half we had most of the possession and created Ilkley numerous
problems. Dannie and Emily both had
good opportunities to put us ahead but unfortunatly could not make the break
through. Anya slotted in on the left of midfield and made a number of telling passes.
When Ilkley threatened Izzy and Amy managed to cope fairly comfortable
with Amy in particular getting to grips very well with her new position. She made some typical strong challenges and
covered very well as required.
Typically after being on top for most of the first half and restricting
Ilkley to very few opportunities we fell to a very late sucker punch. Ilkley
broke and finished very well past Jade who had no chance with the shot.
0-1
At half time.
At
half time we regrouped and made a couple of changes. Hannah came on for Anya in
midfield and Katie replaced Izzy in defence.
After taking a while to settle and losing a bit of the momentum we
managed to gain as the first half went on we started again to create
chances. However Ilkley were a lot stronger
in the second half and looking a decent well organised side which made it was a
lot tighter match.
We
kept pushing for the equaliser however as the game went on it looked like it
was just going to be “one of those days”
Both sides had chances as the
half went on but Jade having another solid performance in goal and well
assisted by Katie and Amy managed to keep Ilkley at bay. Olivia came on for Emily halfway into the
second half with Alice replacing Hannah shortly afterwards. We continued.
As
the game entered the final few minutes and heading for defeat we managed to get
Ellie Mc through on goal. As she
advanced she hit a cracking looping shot that appeared to hang in the air for
ages. All held their breath as it dropped over the keeper to land in the top
right hand top corner and the roar went up. The relief was there for all to see as we managed
to get the well-deserved equaliser that even Ilkley coach said we were well
worth.
In
the second game we played a nine aside game where again we had players experiencing
playing different positions to gain experience. All worked hard and again it was a fairly
tight match with few chances. However In
the second half Emily made a bit of space for herself on the edge of the box and
finished well to seal the game for Scotton.
Player of the match was Amy for an outstanding performance in a new position in defence.
