Falcons sweep in to beat Scorchers U11s

On a day when we were expecting plenty of rain the U11s managed to welcome Thirsk Falcons GJFC to the SCG and beat the deluge.
Despite the girls not seeing each other for 3 weeks they started very brightly and took the lead through a very determined Abbey.
Thirsk however are a very well drilled side and under the close command of their coach they got back into the game and went into half time in the lead by just one goal.

The second half had more tough tackling and brilliant football from both teams but Thirsk got stronger and stretched their lead. Scorchers girls never gave in though and managed to grab a great second goal through Connie.
Unfortunately for Scotton, Thirsk came away 7-2 winners but as ever all the Scorchers girls played their part and everyone of these girls are getting better week by week.

The difference today I think was.....GLOVES!! A lot of the Scotton girls were complaining their hands were cold and this took their focus off their football, so please parents if you are reading this, send your daughter with a pair of gloves next week. (Football is a winter sport when it is really cold, its easier to take layers off to cool down than put layers on to warm up!!)

The girls all then played a friendly where everyone got another good run out and hopefully all went home shattered!!

As you can see from the pics there was smiles a plenty from both sides which is what we want to see.
SMILES=FUN=HAPPY KIDS=RESULT

Girl of the game today for Scotton was Ella R for some fantastic wing play and showing off some great new tricks that she has learnt in recent weeks and was brave enough to try out in the game. This is what its all about at this age, the girls must be willing to try something new and experiment and not worry about failure. Results still don't matter. Development is key. Players will only improve if they are not afraid of failure.
