Harrogate and District Junior Under-11 Girls League Cup Final
Burley Trojans Under-11's 0
Scotton Scorchers Under-11's 3
Well done to our victorious girls who achieved the "Double" with a fine win against a strong Trojan team.
Team-Captain Georgia led the team to glory with a great hatrick that means she has scored 27 goals this season (a remarkable effort that is unlikely to be surpassed).
Scotton started the brighter team and the pace of Josie and Rebecca on the wings caused problems for the Burley defence. Georgia's first goal came after ten minutes and the team lifted their whole game after that and played some of their best ever football. Hannah played brilliantly in defence and surged forward frequently to set up attacks. Hannah made a fabulous run that cut through the Burley defence and she squared the ball for Georgia to score her second. Molly W was back at her best to break up Burley attacks in the midfield and ran with the ball frequently. Ellie's timing of her tackles was a delight to see and Jayde was solid in goal but began suffering from the heat.
At half- time Scorchers were forced to make a change when Jayde had to be substituted and Riah pulled on the green jersey. Despite the pressure of the big game and her lack of experience Rhia stepped in and straight away played in goal with great confidence and ability.
Mollie replaced Josie on the left wing and battled hard. However, Burley began to have more chances and were denied by excellent defending by Ellie and Hannah and some skillful saves by Rhia. However, Scotton were not to be denied as Georgia scored her third and the brave Trojans just could not find a way to score. Molly W began suffering from the heat and was replaced with ten minutes to go by Josie. Soon after Sine replaced Rebecca and played energetically in defence.
Burley turned up the pressure towards the end but with Riah playing so well in goal and a defence that was in charge the Trojans could not break through. When the whistle went coaches and parents and supporters proudly applauded the brilliant girls.
The day was also special because the team was supported by the players who had to sit out the final and they provided great noise and support.
John was really pleased and proud that the team played so well in his final match in charge. Well done girls!
Thank you to Andy for running the line so tidily and to Richard for being such a brilliant assistant manager. Well done lads! The team is in great hands with Andy and Richard and is ready to step up to even greater challenges.
Come on the Scorchers!!!!!!!!!!!!
