The U13's played three friendly matches against Ilkley this weekend, winning the third game one nil to record a great victory.
The first 9 aside game ever played by the Scorchers was a closely contested game, with huge goals to contend with Daisy found some adjusting was required!!. However she pulled off a number of great saves. Hannah M playing at left back showed again the good progress she is making in her first full season and Shannon worked her socks off up front. The score ending 3 nil to Ilkley.
In the second game Hannah P and Olivia played their first ever games for the Scorchers, Hannah P almost scoring on her debut and making some great attacking runs alongside a determined Abbie. Olivia in defence put in some good tackles and got the ball forward well. The closely contested game ended 2 nil to Ilkley.
The third game saw Scorchers triumph with a terrific performance which saw them have the best of the play for most of the game. Caitlin made some great saves in goal and never looked troubled. Philippa and Haley were fantastic in defence with great cover provided by Rebecca in midfield alongside Imogen and Shannon who together harried and tussled for every ball. Daisy now playing on the wing made some good runs forward. Emily worked hard and showed just how much she has improved this season, and finally Melissa and that winning goal. A great Scorchers passing move saw Shannon win the ball just inside the Scorchers half, she threaded the ball to Emily who gave a deft diagonal pass to Melissa who hit the shot first time from all of 20 yards blasting the ball in to the roof of the Ilkley goal, her first ever goal and great goal to mark this victory. Player of the day went to the whole team. It was fitting that every player was there when the girls recorded their first win.
Thanks to Mike D who refereed the game (apologies for getting a bit excited in the last few minutes!!!) and thanks to Steve and all the girls at Ilkley for a some great games. Well done girls look out for our last friendly fixture coming up one evening in the next 2 weeks.
