Saturdays scoreline certainly did not reflect the game, again a 'new' team took on a very experienced old modernians and acquitted themselves superbly. In a season of rebuilding for the u12 girls with players leaving and new players coming in this 'new' team are playing some fantastic football and we're finding emerging talent and improving the more 'experienced' players.A few more tough games like these and this current crop of players could be world beaters. Scorchers actually set off on fire with a more attacking formation and really took the game to their opponents and with some strong running from team captain Georgia (who put in a real captains effort)were soon pegging old mods back. Unfortunately against the run of play old mods took the lead and this seemed to settle them down and they then started to really play the ball around well.So with Jayde back in goal it was certainly a busy game to welcome her back and she did very well keeping out numerous shots from some very sharp shooting even so the team was soon 3 goals down but as I've said before this team are fighters and they didn't just give up.
OH NO,this led our girls to really fight back and with attack in their heads the midfield trio of Rebecca C,Rebecca S & Sophie all pushed forward and this led to the finest goal I've ever seen.
From a corner old mods cleared the ball away and Ellie picked it up just inside the oppositions half and WALLOP straight eveybody's head just under the crossbar with pinpoint accuracy.(Beckham who?)Nothing less than she deserved for all the hard work herself and Hannah did to keep a rampant old mods side at bay. All the girls put in sterling efforts and really kept attacking but couldn't stop old mods from scoring 2 more before half time.
In the second half the goals kept coming form old mods but still our girls kept going well done girls, jayde 'the cat' with her flying saves, sophie getting in her trademark crunching tackles, hannah with her superb tackling and great running, ellie cool as a cucumber interceptions and passing, rebecca c with some amazing tricks and runs, rebecca s with her jinking wing play and georgia t who led from the front and deserved goals for her amazing effort.
AND there were the subs who all came on and were superb too, Emma who got stuck in straight away with some great tackling and chasing and harrying,Riah with some great support play and strong goalkeeping and sine with some real tough tackles.(Who is the tougher tackler Sine or Sophie?!)WELL DONE GIRLS,the scoreline became irrelevant in a game where 1-0 is as good as 100-0. So give yourselves a pat on the back and hold your heads up because you are all awesome. Player of the match was a very tricky one with super displays all round but hannah was just pipped to it by a real captains performance form Georgia, so well done georgia.
So back to training next week 9.45am 6dec at the cricket field.
COME ON THE SCORCHERS!
