If you saw the FA Cup game today on TV you will know just what i mean!!
Manchester United were quicker on and off the ball, passed the ball well and controlled the game, scoring 4 and could have got more. Which could pretty much describe the Scorchers U14 game today. KP United showed why they are top with slick passing, great movement and plenty of well taken goals.
That said the Scorchers girls started the better and for 25 minutes defended well and worked together as a team, keeping their shape well. Without our leading striker, a key defender and tenacious midfielder we found ourselves exposed in front of the defence and limited chances up front. As the game entered the second half the girls were increasingly pressed back in to their own half and pressured in to defensive mistakes. Key players today for the Scorchers were Rosie, who never gave up, Imogen and Olivia who 'ran their socks off' and player of the day Rebecca, who had her best game for some time making tackle after tackle with real determination. Daisy, made some good saves, Philippa captained the team well and defended for all she was worth, Emily, tried to stem the goal rush assisting defence and Abbie lead the attack well with limited opportunities, Melissa, played in an unfamiliar midfield role and did her best.
Last week top of the table Celtic won 7 goals to nil then lost 1 nil to the same team today. We have Ripon next week and need to be totally focussed and lets believe we can make a game of it. Come on the Scorchers!!!.
