U11s Performance of the Season Gets Little Reward

The U11 girls came up against Wetherby again this week, playing the fixture re-arranged from earlier in the season. Once again Wetherby showed their qualities with a well deserved 4-0 win in very windy conditions, but the Scorchers can be very satisfied with the performance that they put in.

We started with a few changes in our formation with Emily and Sam swapping positions to put Emily in goal and Sam in midfield. The return of Emma also provided the opportunity to try a defensive change with last weeks player of the match Steph partnering Emma to try and provide a solid wall at the back.

The midfield of Ella, Sam and Maddie had to work exceptionally hard in the first half. Chloe was often left watching the game from her attacking position but the hard work, determination and effort shown by the midfield and defense kept a quality Wetherby side at bay and all three of their first half goals were from long range and from very high quality strikes, none of which we should be too disappointed with.

In the second half Scotton grew in confidence and continued to work very hard. Molly and Georgina both came on in defense, replacing Emma and Steph and both showed the same level of effort that the rest of the team were showing in all areas of the football pitch. Wetherby were restricted to just one more very scrappy goal in the second half which saw a bit of a goal mouth scramble but other than that there was a great deal that we can take heart from, not least the level of effort put in by all and the contribution the team made to a very good match.

Player of the match this week was a very tough choice and could have been given to any one of the nine players in the game. However Sam was chosen as a result of the tackling, running, defensive and attacking support that she gave for the whole game.

The friendly was again a match against some of Wetherby's first and second team players and we showed that we can play some great attacking football when we have the confidence and energy to push forward. Emily swapped the goal-keeper jersey for the strikers and helped herself to a great hat-trick.

Well done to all the girls today, lets see the same energy and enthusiasm when we play Ilkley in the cup semi-final on 18th April.
