The U10 girls were very unlucky to come away with nothing after their best performance of the season at unbeaten league leaders Scarborough Ladies. It was a great improvement on last week and bodes well for the rest of season. The girls were well organised and committed, stuck to their positions and for long periods dominated the game.
With Jasmine and Elizabeth chasing everything in midfield and appearing all over the pitch, Scarboro were not allowed to pose a threat. When however, they did break through, the Scotton defence in Man of the Match Molly and an inspired Rose cleared most of the danger, whilst Sophie comfortably stopped their one shot on goal.
So it was against the run of play when a bit of bad luck from a Scotton goal kick gave Scarboro' the lead.
It was more of the same in the second half when Scotton again more than matched Scarboro. Both Beth and Georgia came close to equalising and again Jasmine and Elizabeth were everywhere. However there was more bad luck to come when the referee awarded a penalty for handball against Scotton . Harsh indeed. Sophie had no chance with the kick and the game was effectively over.
It was however a great performance of which the girls can be proud and if they can continue playing like this then there are victories around the corner.
