Today Wetherby showed just why they have been leading the table so far, with fast attacking football and a well organised and skilfull defence. The Scorchers started with the team that had done so well the week before and kept a plan B and C in reserve!! From the kick off Wetherby had the Scorchers stretched as they played with confidence, hitting a post in the early exchanges. The game went from end to end but it was clear that Wetherby's skilful, speedy and strong left midfielder was creating big problems, and it was here that Wetherby's goal came from, a cross from the left with pace and height was parried brilliantly away by Amelia but unfortunately Wetherby were first to the ball to smash it in to the net. Alice had already worked her socks off on our right, and Beth at left back was coming under increasing pressure as Wetherby charged forward, it was time for plan B!! On came Olivia at left back and Beth switched to right of midfield. The game immediately began to balance up with Beth keeping some control over their left midfielder Olivia and Charlotte holding the defence and Ella and Naimh starting to get some chances at goal. The half finished with Emma through on goal but just unable to shoot as the ball ran away from her. Half time and 1 nil down.
Whilst we had improved and were back in the game, we needed to be radical, with only 15 minutes left, Time for plan C! Scorchers started the second half with Charlotte B on at left back pushing Olivia to midfield and Ella in to attack alongside Niamh, with Georgia in goal. With all our cards played we held our breaths. In an incredible 6 minutes the Scorchers were 3 goals to 1 up as Ella turned from provider to goalscorer, hitting a fantastic hatrick. Olivia, Emma and Niamh all created chances for Ella and had chances too, Emma snuffed out Wetherby's attacking play from right of midfield and Olivia covered brilliantly at the back as both Charlottes went forward when the opportunity presented itself. A terrific game with great play from both teams.
In the second game it was great to play a full 30 minutes and ensure everyone got plenty of time on the pitch.Georgia and Amelia shared the keeping role again and both kept clean sheets. Ella and Olivia showed versatility in defence and looked really solid, Beth played up front and had a number of real chances to score, Charlotte B and Charlotte M both had time in attack and both scored great goals. Emma came back on after a rest and helped the defence. Alice had spells in midfield and defence with some great tackling and running on and off the ball. Georgia and Amelia showed their skills in midfiled and Niamh played in the middle supporting attacking and defending. In summary everyone had a great second game, tried out different positions had a and won 2 nil.
Many Thanks to all the parents who helped set up, goals, barriers, cornerflags, pitch inspection etc. Thanks too to Dave and Lee who were both great referees. See you Saturday Mike and Rebecca
