The game was almost called off due to a frozen pitch but it thawed just in time and the game was on. Scotton started with Emily up front and Chloe playing in just behind with Jess and Lowenna in midfield with Honor playing alongside Molly in defence. Sam played in goal in the first half but was to have very little to do in a half that Scotton started brightly and just got better.
The passing from midfield and between the strikers was noticeable better than in the past, with the training from last week being put into practice by the whole team. Wetherby threatened our goal early in the half but the defence was up t0 the task and Sam looked very solid in goal. At the other end Chloe and Emily were always threatening and the work that Jes and Lowenna put in in midfield was just what was asked for.
The first goal came mid way through the half and was straight off the training ground with Emily slotting a ball through to Chloe who put the ball through the keepers legs for a very well worked goal. Elouise came on for Lowenna, and Grace in place of Jes and both slotted into the side which by now were playing some confident football.
Chances came and went, corners were won and shots went wide but eventually Chloe returned the favour to Emily with a great through ball and Emily powered her shot past the keeper and in off the post.
Georgina then came on and depite suffering with a sore throat and a cold (which made her unusually quite) she made quite an impression, particularly when she took Wetherby's dangerous striker on shoulder to shoulder and ended up forcing the ball into the corner and winning a goal kick.
In the second half Sam swapped places with Honor with Sam playing in midfield and Honor taking up duty between the posts. Honor was to be a bit busier in the second half as Wetherby pressed for a lifeline in the match and they started to find some rhythm. Scotton were not to be out done and with Grace and Elouise growing in confidence, Sam putting in lots of work in midfield and Jes filling in in defence alongside the ever reliable Molly, Scotton always looked strong.
Chloe was given a rest and this was the time for others to step up and score the goal that would seel the win. And who better than the debutant Grace who ran onto yet another great through ball from Emily to finish confidently and make it 3-0. Emily was then rested and Chloe took her place and the chances continued to be made as players played in different positions, including a cameo role from Molly in midfield which almost resulted in a fourth goal. Unfortunately no more goals were coming but this was a very good performance against a good team who tested us particularly in the second half.
Player of the match could have gone to several players, but it went to Chloe who had put in a great all round performance.
Well done girls!
