Scorchers U14 Girls at the Poppleton Tournament
A wet day's play at Poppleton. Slideshow
The U14s travelled to Poppleton today for the annual City of York Girls Football League Tournament.
The initial qualifying phase (during which the rain turned from steady to torrential!) saw Scotton play Pickering Town (win), Thornton Dale (draw), Fulford (loss), Stamford Bridge (draw) and finally old rivals Knaresborough Celtic (draw).
After a short interval while the results from the different groups were collated, the shivering Scorchers were confirmed as semi finalists and moved on to play Poppleton Tigers. Despite a very good performance from Scotton that match ended 2-0 to the Tigers.
Given the appalling weather conditions the girls deserve great credit for their cheerful and committed attitude throughout the afternoon - they played consistently well and as usual left their (almost as soaked) parents and coaches feeling very proud of them.
