This game was a much closer encounter than the scoreline suggests, but before the match report we want to send our best wishes and a speedy recovery to the K Celtic player who left the field with a broken collar bone.
The game started at great pace, the Scorchers getting an early break with Ella confidently putting the ball in the net with a neat run and powerful finish, a great start. However K Celtic, came straight back at the Scorchers, creating a chance down the right. Amelia saving well on what was her busiest game for some time!! Throughout the game she was called upon making several saves at the feet of the advancing Celtic strikers. Our defence held firm and whilst we created chances the Celtic keeper was in fine form. Half time 1.0 and Celtic started with real determination pushing players forward in hope of an equaliser. Key defensive tackling and tracking back from Anna, on her debut (and what a great debut) alongside Charlotte M ensured Celtic were going to have to work hard for a goal. Georgia held the team together protecting the defence and also getting the ball to Emma who charged down the right wing at every opportunity and created several chances for herself and the team.
On the left Charlotte B set up chances too hitting the post on one occasion and getting in some of her now trade mark tackling. With end to end football and only one goal in it a fascinating match continued. Ella eventually getting her second goal, but still the game could swing either way, Amelia scrambling the ball away on one occasion and goal line clearances too. The next 2 goals both came form great counter attacking football, with Ella's pace taking her clear to beat the keeper, who saved one initially only to see Ella hit the rebound in with her right foot. Girl of the game was Ella for an outstanding attacking performance, great finishing and keeping going when it looked like the goals may not come. Another great team perfomance.
In the second game, we brought on Annabel in midfield, Ella in to goal, Amelia on the right, Alice in to right back and Dumile in attack alongside Emma. Another cracking game and a deserved goal for Celtic before Emma scored the equaliser from the right. Amelia put in another all action display along with Dumile who caused lots of problems for Celtic in their penalty area. Annabel went in goal in the second half and produced some great saves as our team lost it's shape a bit and Celtic took advantage, Annabel kept a clean sheet and showed she can certainly play in goal and outfield too. As the clock ticked down it was Ella who again scored the winner, to make it nine goals in six games!!!! Player of the game went to Charlotte B, never gave up and ran for everything, keeping us in the game at times and then creating attacking play.
