U10s record first win by edging past Fulford 2-1

After a number of close losses during the early part of the season the U10s finally got their reward for continuing to give 110% in every game

In atrocious conditions with cold driving rain from the kick off Scottton started to impose their game on a hard working Fulford side.  With conditions very difficult and boggy underfoot it was not a day for pretty football. However in midfield Emily and Daniele assisted by Issy made tackle after tackle to win the ball and break up Fulfords possession.   After winning the ball we managed to pass the ball reasonably well in the circumstances and gave Ellie Mc a couple of chances to take on the Fulford defence.  Unfortuanatly we did not get run of the ball and the attacks did not trouble the Fulford keeper.  At the back due to the conditions Jade and Anya made the right decisions and did the simple things well by keeping it tight. This restricted Fulford to relatively few chances. On the couple of occasions they did break through Grace made a number of important saves.

With the game largely being played in a congested midfield we finally created a bit of space and Emily capped her “girl of the game” performance  by getting free to drill a fine crisp shot passed the keeper to put us 1-0 up.   Chances were few and far between and the game continued to be a fully contested affair.  Unfortunately just before half time Fulford produced a bit of quality passing and sliced through the defence to equalise in fine style giving Grace no chance to make it 1-1.

At half time we made a couple of changes, Bella and Olivia coming on for Ellie Mc and Jade.   Emily was pushed up front with Bella dropping into midfield and Olivia slotting in at the back next to Anya.   As the pitch continued to deteriorate it became increasingly hard for either side to find any rhythm however we dug in and continued collectively to work very hard.  With both sides visibly tiring our high work rate paid off  with the predatory Bella once again highlighting her eye for goal by pouncing on a loose ball and finding the inside of the left hand post to put us 2-1 up.

After the goal we contained Fulford for the remainder of the game to successfully record a deserved first win on the season.

In the friendly game we made a number of changes with Alice, Alicia, Amber, Jade, Ellie L , Olivia coming on with Issy putting on the keepers gloves.  Again in extremely difficult conditions we all worked very hard and continued to compete fully on a very difficult surface.   Unfortunaltely in another tight game Fulford managed to break on a couple of occasions to finish the game as 2-0  victors.

In both games the commitment shown by all the girls was first class and we competed fully throughout both games.   On a freezing cold, wet day that many of the girls will not played in previously it was fantastic to see the full squad successfully supporting each other in both games.

We have now got our first league win under our belts, well done to all. Bring on the next game!
