Late, Late Match Report - Scorchers Tigers 4 York Railway 2

Earlier in the season York RI and the Tigers had played out a competetive 1.1 draw, with Railway having the best of the first half and Scorchers the second half. So another close encounter was expected. The game got off to a flying start with chances at both ends, and it was Railway who took the lead. However the Scorchers have been behind this season a number of times and have learnt not to panic, but to bounce straight back. In the previous game the Scorchers had struggled to find the net, coming up a rock solid defence, so Jasmine took up the strikers role and with a bit more physical presence put the Railway defence under real pressure. After working on one or two things in training the girls knew the key to unlocking Railways defence. A powerful shot from Ella, rocketed over the bar, as the Scorchers pressure increased and and the Scorchers went level then a goal ahead with terrific goals from Ella and Emma, the second, a well worked pass and move between three attacking players putting Emma free on the right to rifle the ball home. Half time and 2.1 to the Scorchers. The team talk concentrated on staying switched on in defence and communication throughout the team, with emphasis on the next goal being key. With Amelia in goal distributing the ball well, and the defence cutting out Railways attacks with Charlotte B and Charlotte M in top form the Scorchers got a third another well worked goal finished by Emma. But Railway weren't finished and increasingly caused midfield problems. With players tiring Niamh came on for Emma on the right of midfield and started getting a grip back on the middle of the field, however Railway, broke clear to put the score back to 3.2. Spectators nerves were jangling, but the girls were cool as cucumber, as Ella finished the game off with a great solo run and left footed strike. A 4.2 win and some tired players, Georgia covered every bit of the pitch in midfield and held the team together to get the win the girls deserved.

Emma scores 2 more in the Tigers latest win against Railway
