Pictures of the match
Another great game of football was played out at Scarborough between two tough sides.
Scotton again fielded just the 9 players but this only seems to consolidate the great team spirit the girls have going now.
The team consisted of Jayde,Riah, Hannah and Becky S on defensive duties, Becky C and Ciara patrolling the middle of the park and the attacking trio of Molly,Georgie and GT.
All the talk before the game was how the team was going to cope without Ellie in the heart of defence(Oh and of course who was going to get one direction tickets!!) but Becky S stepped in and did a fantastic job and has left the coach with selection headaches for next week!
Emily was also sorely missed and all the girls hope she will be available for the trip to our friends at Thornton next week.
In the first 10-15 minutes of the game the girls really had to weather a major onslaught from the Scarborough Ladies, the girls admirably stuck to their task and chased and harried the Scarborough ladies and were not allowed to play their own game by a very impressive start from the 'boro' ladies.
Once the girls managed to break free from their own half and had got used to the narrower pitch they visibly grew in confidence and a great break by Molly led to an emphatic finish by GT to put Scotton 1-0 up.
This was maybe a bit harsh on Scarborough but it was just what Scotton needed and this was then followed up by another goal from Georgie who punted a huge kick up in the air from about 15yards out and somehow it manged to bounce over the 'boro' keeper who could count herself unlucky not to save it but the girls smiles said it all, they were more than happy to take a 2 goal lead into half time.
The girls had the wind behind them and were attacking the 'seaside' end in the second half and this allowed the girls to try out some shooting from range which kept the 'boro' keeper busy.
Scarborough ladies hadn't finished yet though and as everybody knows they are a team who never give in and play right up to the very end!(Look back at a lot of their games and you'll see why)
It only took a lapse in concentration and 'boro' had pulled a goal back, a nice strike which deflected past the Scotton keeper, which again led to a spell of 'boro' pressure and a great save at the feet of an onrushing 'boro' player prevented the scores from drawing level.
Once the girls got their composure back they attacked the 'seaside' end again and GT got her deserved second goal of the game to cap a fantastic game by her which put the girls 3-1 up and then to put the icing on the cake (of birthday boy Wayne) Jayde struck a goal into the bottom corner of the (fishing??!!) net.
4-1 to Scotton ladies, smiles all round from both sides after some great football by both sides.
A great TEAM performance again by Scotton Ladies, fantastic attitude and application by all, good luck to Scarborough Ladies for the rest of the season.
Girl of the game for Scotton was Molly Webster, although on today's performance all of the girls could have won it as not one girl did anything wrong at all. They were all superb.
A big thankyou to Wayne (40Yrs old!!) and York Pullman for providing a mini bus for the long trip out to Scarborough.
Also I believe the final score was Boro 3 v 2 Scotton. . . . . . One direction tickets that is!!!!!!!
