Scorchers Bow out of the County Cup

Well the combined U15/U16 county cup team bowed out with their heads held high after being squeezed out on penalties after playing out an enthralling 0-0 draw (with extra time).

This was only the third time these girls had played together and it showed in the first ten minutes as the girls were getting used to each other but they weathered some heavy pressure and then they started to look quite comfortable against one of Yorkshires highest scoring teams.
In the first half both teams played very competitively and  the referee did well to keep the game played in the correct spirit.
Both teams managed equal shots on each others goal but neither team could break the deadlock.

The nearest either side came to scoring was when Molly chipped the keeper to hit the inside of the post and bounce along the goal line when it looked near impossible to actually stay out of the goal and the ball landed in the keepers hands.

HALF TIME 0-0

The second half was played in exactly the same full blooded way and the Scotton girls held strong and gave as good as they got but resisted the temptation of proffesional fouls!!
Both teams had good chances to score but neither side could actually put the ball in the back of the net so the game finished 0-0 and so on to extra time.....

Scotton actually went down to 10 players but are used to playing with players short now!
So another 20 mins of hard work and again neither side unable to score so the game went to the dreaded penalties which Wigton managed to get the better of and put them through to the semi final.
Jayde did superbly in goal managing to save the first penalty and getting a hand to all the other penalties but alas it was not to be!!

A cruel way to go out of the cup but another unbelievable game of football.
All who witnessed this game were very impressed with both sides and the high standard of football.

Congratulations to Wigton and good luck in the semi final.

Well played and hope all the girls really enjoyed the experience in the county cup, it has been an excellent adventure and a well worth while venture for the girls.

Girl of the game was Ellie C for marshalling the defence and not allowing a single goal in normal play.
Every single girl involved today can be proud of themselves, this was just a fantastic advert for girls football.

GO SCORCHERS!!
