U16s SCORCHERS 1 v 1 Poppleton

Still the U16s couldn't break the Tigers Hoodoo!!
Both sides were playing new look teams and fielding a lot of players 'playing up' an age group but the quality of football was still high from two football 'greats'.
A huge thankyou to all the U15s girls who were able to play today and help out the U16s in fulfilling their fixture against Poppleton at the sixth time of asking!
A special mention must go to Honor who not only stepped up to the U16s but also played the whole game in goal to help out the team, thankyou Honor I know its not your favourite position but you were fantastic and showed everybody what being part of a team is all about.

The scorchers girls selected their own formation and game plan and were executing it perfectly until a lapse in concentration allowed Poppy's tricky winger to dance through and slide the ball under the onrushing Scotton keeper and put the Tigers 1-0 up.
Well this seemed like deja-vu when these two teams play, scotton playing so well and getting nothing out of the game.
Not this season though, the hardcore players that are left of the U16s squad have a steely determination about them and ably supported by the U15s they pulled themselves back into the game and a great corner from Georgie was finished with a fantastic volley from Becky S just before half time to the level up the game 1-1.

So into half time all square.

In the second half the game ebbed and flowed but the longer the game went the more the scorchers pressured the tigers goal and Poppy seemed to be happy with a draw and defended resolutely to keep the game at 1-1.
So despite all their pressure the Scorchers couldn't break their Poppy hoodoo and the game finished 1-1.

So the scorchers despite all the difficulties they have had to overcome this season remain unbeaten this season and their destiny is still in their own hands.

Girl of the game was Becky C for her amazing amount of work she got through in the middle of the pitch despite a lack of sleep this week!!

As ever well played to all the girls of both sides for a thorughly entertaining game of football.
Thankyou to Poppy for reversing the fixture also and we all look forward to the return game.

GO SCORCHERS!!
