The U15 girls bounced back from their mid week loss at the hands of the unbeaten league champions to record a convincing win over a determined Ripon side who have this season failed to capitalise on some very good team play.
Sam started in goal with Becky standing in for Lowenna in the centre of defence flanked by Georgina and Molly. In midfield Emma stepped in for Eloise, having proven her ability in this position over the last few games, while Honor and Grace took up their usual partnership, as did Chloe and Emily.
The team were asked to revert back to the way they have played all season after the disappointing mid week display and it was obvious from the start that things were back to normal. Ripon started well and were hard to break down. Emily and Chloe both came close and two shots on target were both saved well by the excellent Ripon 'keeper. The deadlock was finally broken after 15 minutes when a high ball into the box from Honor was headed on by Emily, she turned and took the ball on her head again, turning the defender in the processes, and then hit the ball on the full volley into the top corner! Contender for goal of the season.
The Ripon girls heads visibly dropped and Scotton went on to completely dominate the rest of the half. Emily scored her second soon after when she picked the ball up on the left and ran at the defence. As the defence backed off she neatly went past the defender and shot left footed into the bottom corner.
Chloe, Courtney and Emily then made the move of the game with superb inter passing resulting in a shot that was neatly saved by the 'keeper who turned the ball round for a corner.
Emily's third goal was also the result of great team play with Emily and Chloe playing a neat 1-2 and Emily celebrating a quick fire Hat-trick. She had time before the break to make it 4 when Sam's goal kick was picked up in midfield and again the defence backed off and a shot from distance found the back of the net.
The scoring was not yet done as Grace made it 5-0 at half time as she also made a superb run down the right and coolly finished into the far bottom corner.
At half time we decided to play players in some different positions with Emily, Courtney and Grace making up the back three and Georgina playing as a striker. She reluctantly agreed but looked well out of her comfort zone, but soon fell into the roll and looked more confident. With Emma on the right and Molly on the left the Scorchers pushed forward but Ripon would not give up and offered some concerns for the makeshift defence.
Emily went on a run from the right and with a neat interchange again with Chloe she fed the ball into Emma who was there at the back post to side foot the ball home to make it 6-0.
Emma was then pushed up front with Geogina back in midfield but when a corner was won Georgina went in search of a goal. The corner went across the face of goal and was side footed home at the back post by Georgina for her first goal of the season! The celebrations were the biggest of the day and as the match finished 7-0 Georgina topped the day off with a player of the match award for the way that she played in positions that were unfamiler to her in such a positive way.
Great performance by the girls this morning, well done to all.
