Finally the U16s match reports are back, sorry we've been experiencing computer problems, but fear not that hole in your life can once again be fulfilled. (This is officially the most read U16 CYGFL girls team site)
So after much fixture swapping and postponements a whole new league cup fixtures pitched the Scorchers in the semi final against their old adversaries Poppleton Tigers.
Of course so as to fit in with the girls season they decided it just wouldn't be right to play the best side in the league with a full squad and the girls took on the mighty Tigers with just 8 players!!
A big thankyou to Emily and Honor for stepping up from the U15s again and showing that they are more than comfortable playing at this age group.
The game kicked off in glorious sunshine (finally!) and nobody would have noticed that the scorchers were playing a player light because as always with these two sides the game ebbed and flowed and both sides made chances with Jayde 'The Cat' keeping out anything that Poppy could fire at her.
Meanwhile at the other end GT was keeping the Poppy defence on their toes by making a real nuisance of herself ably assisted from midfield by Honor,Emily,Becky S & Becky C.
Both sides could probably feel like they could of got a goal but the game remained scoreless at halftime.
The girls got together at half time and Coach Georgie gave the girls a good pep talk and told them how great they were doing and to keep being brave and believing in themselves.
So out the girls went in the second half keeping their cavalier shape with a back 2 of Ell and Em allowing the scorchers to be attacking and not to get stuck just defending.
Obviously as the game went on both sides looked tired and the gaps started opening up and the game quickly went from one end to the other.
What was really impressive was to see the girls making their own decisions on team positions and swapping places to enable players to take much needed rests.
Unfortunately for the girls Poppy managed to pinch the ball and ran at the heart of the defence and slotted the ball into the corner of Scorchers net to go 1-0 up.
Nothing that girl of the game Jayde could do about that one.
The girls really showed their character though and instead of getting their heads down and giving up they rose to the challenge (yet again this season) and really had a go at the Poppy goal but alas it was not to be, so for this year their cup dream was over. Cruelly beaten by a single goal but congratulations to Poppy and good luck in the final.
Lets hope the girls can field a full side for our league game against them and get the win that they thoroughly deserve.
So a brief summary of the game was given to the girls and then all enjoyed my 40th birthday cake (3 months early!!) and even sang Happy Birthday to me. Thanks Girls!
